Northwest Naturals Recalls Nearly 2,000 Pounds of Pet Food Due to Salmonella and Listeria Contamination

Northwest Naturals issued a voluntary recall for 1,956 pounds of frozen raw pet food after the Food and Drug Administration identified salmonella and listeria monocytogenes contamination in two chicken products. The recall covers 53 cases of Northwest Naturals Frozen Chicken Recipe, which serves as cat food and a dog protein topper, and 19 cases of Northwest Naturals Frozen Raw Diet for Dogs Chicken Recipe. These products were distributed to retail stores nationwide. Testing by the Food and Drug Administration confirmed that the 2-pound Frozen Chicken Recipe tested positive for salmonella, while the 6-pound Frozen Raw Diet for Dogs Chicken Recipe tested positive for both salmonella and listeria monocytogenes. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall as of August 28. Consumers are advised to stop feeding the affected products to their pets and return the unused portions to the place of purchase for a full refund. Owners should also wash and sanitize any surfaces, bowls, and utensils that came into contact with the food, as well as their hands, to prevent the spread of bacteria to humans or other animals.
