Billionaire Peter Thiel acquired a significant stake in Argentine oil producer Vista Energy, marking a shift toward energy investments.

Billionaire Peter Thiel's hedge fund, Thiel Macro LLC, acquired a stake in Vista Energy, the largest independent energy company in Argentina. According to a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing, the fund owns approximately 1.2 million American Depository Shares worth about $76 million. This position ranks as the second- largest disclosed holding for Thiel Macro, surpassed only by Amazon. This investment highlights a strategic shift for Peter Thiel, who recently relocated to Buenos Aires and has met with President Javier Milei to discuss economic reforms. Vista Energy operates in the Vaca Muerta shale formation, which holds significant oil reserves. The move reflects a broader trend of capital moving from digital assets toward commodities and equities. While Thiel's fund previously focused heavily on technology, his recent disclosures show a heavy concentration in energy and utility companies, including American Electric Power and DTE Energy. The success of the investment depends on the Argentina's output and the ability of President Javier Milei to maintain his reform program.
