Estefanel Gutiérrez and Samir Radi challenge CREG energy consumption measures due to Caribbean heat
Representative Estefanel Gutiérrez and Representative Samir Radi have expressed opposition to new measures established by the Energy and Gas Regulation Commission (CREG). The commission's new rules provide benefits for users who reduce their monthly consumption by more than 10% compared to their individual goals, while imposing an additional charge for those who exceed that percentage. Representative Estefanel Gutiérrez argued that the Caribbean region should not be penalized for its high temperatures. He noted that the region suffers from poor service and high tariffs, and criticized the policy for being designed by those in the interior of the country who experience lower temperatures. Representative Samir Radi highlighted the geographical differences between the Caribbean and the interior. He pointed out that using fans and air conditioning is not a luxury in the region, citing a thermal sensation of 53 degrees in Barranquilla. Radi requested the CREG to reconsider its decisions, noting that many commissioners live in areas with temperatures between 10 and 20 degrees.
