Authorities in Usaquén Recover Public Space Under the Bridge of Street 170 and Avenue 15

The Local Municipality of Usaquén and several district entities conducted an intervention to recover 200 to 250 square meters of public space under the bridge of Street 170 and Avenue 15. The area had been occupied by improvised structures, mattresses, furniture, and approximately six tons of waste. During the operation, officials disassembled four non-conventional structures and removed 20 cubic meters of debris. Authorities also confiscated two machetes and a cell phone. The intervention addressed concerns from residents regarding theft, drug consumption, and the accumulation of trash that had hindered pedestrian movement. Daniel Ortiz, the local mayor of Usaquén, stated that the goal is to ensure public spaces are used by the community rather than being occupied improperly. To prevent future occupation, the IDU is proceeding with a definitive closure of the lower bridge. The operation involved nearly 40 officials from various agencies, including the Secretariat Districtal of Security, the Police, and the DADEP.
