German police arrest 48-year-old man Daniel V. for series of sabotage attacks on the country's electricity grid

Police in Cologne arrested a 48-year-old man, identified by media as Daniel V., on Tuesday near the Weisweiler power plant in western Germany. The suspect was sought for a series of sabotage attacks across the states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Brandenburg, and Saxony over the past week. Daniel V. allegedly used homemade rockets to fire thin conductive wires across high-voltage power lines to cause short circuits. These actions resulted in several power-generating units being temporarily taken off the grid, specifically in Bergheim and near the Brandenburg Jänschwalde power station. The suspect was found in possession of explosives and was linked to several letters claiming responsibility for the attacks. In these letters, he justified his actions as a campaign against fossil fuels, specifically targeting lignite, which is used for electricity generation in all three states involved. Police discovered a tent rigged with explosives near the arrest site and several launch devices on high-voltage lines. A bomb disposal expert is currently examining the explosives found during the arrest.
