Santa Monica police fatally shot a man in his 40s who allegedly charged at officers with a knife at Palisades Park on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred while officers were investigating an unrelated domestic violence case near the 1400 block of Ocean Avenue. According to Santa Monica Police Department Chief Darrick Jacob, the man ignored repeated commands to drop his large knife and continued to advance toward the officers. One officer discharged their firearm, striking the man, who was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The suspect was not involved in the original domestic violence investigation. Police noted that the man may have been homeless. No officers or bystanders were injured during the shooting. Parts of the park remained closed as the investigation continues.
