Defense Minister Jorge Mora is summoned to account for the deaths of three minors during military operations in Guaviare.

Defense Minister Jorge Mora was summoned by the Legislature to account for the deaths of three minors under 18 years old during a military operation in the Guaviare department. The summons follows a motion of censure presented by Representative Oscar Benavides, who questioned the military action and the justification provided by Minister Mora that the minors were combatants. Representative Oscar Benavides argued that the constitutional response of the State to minors should not be reduced to identifying them retrospectively as part of an armed structure. Senator Jennifer Pedraza also presented a proposal to convene a debate on political control over Minister Mora, requesting explanations on how the Ministry of Defense complied with international humanitarian law principles of distinction, precaution, and proportionality. The government of President Abelardo de la Espriella confirmed a death toll of ten people in the rural area of El Retorno, with nine victims identified. Minister Mora stated that the State will not give a truce to the armed structures and that the Public Force will continue to hitting their organizations with contundency and within the law.
