Severe weather and high winds caused widespread power outages and tree damage across the Rochester region on Wednesday.

Severe storms swept through the Rochester region early Wednesday morning, bringing high winds, heavy rain, and lightning. Wind gusts reached up to 70 mph, toppling numerous trees and causing significant damage to properties and infrastructure. The National Weather Service in La Crosse, Wisconsin reported a 68 mph gust at the Mayo Clinic helipad and a 62 mph gust at the Rochester international airport. Rochester Public Utilities reported that approximately 1,500 customers were without power by 2 p.m. Utility crews worked to restore power by addressing downed lines caused by vegetation. While some residents experienced power outages, others reported no loss of electricity despite the visual damage. Downed trees and branches filled streets, sidewalks, and lawns. In some areas, trees fell onto houses, roofs, and parked cars. Tree service companies and city departments began clearing debris from streets and properties. The Olmsted County Sheriff's Office reported no injuries or major damage from the storm.
