President Claudia Sheinbaum introduces Olinia Cargo electric vehicle to promote Mexican mini-electromobility.
President Claudia Sheinbaum presented the Olinia Cargo, a new Mexican electric vehicle designed for commercial transport and workers, during a press conference on August 20. The vehicle is designed to transport up to 650 kilograms and features an autonomy of over 120 kilometers, capable of charging from a conventional outlet. Roberto Capuano, the project director, noted that operating the Olinia Cargo costs four times less than a light cargo vehicle and one-third the cost of a motocarro. The vehicle is will be available for sale by the end of 2027 for approximately 8,840 dollars. The Mexican government is opening a public call for national and foreign companies to participate in a mixture of investment and industrial capacity. The goal is to create a solid company with a majority of Mexican capital to manufacture the own vehicles domestically. The project was developed by 70 specialists from institutions such as the Tecnológico Nacional de México, the Instituto Politécnico Nacional, and the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
