President Dallin H. Oaks Dedicates Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple as 220th Operating House of the Lord

President Dallin H. Oaks dedicated the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple on Sunday, August 16, 2026, marking the 220th operating temple for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints worldwide. This dedication served as President Oaks's first international temple dedication since being set apart as Church President. During the ceremony, President Oaks emphasized that temples are essential to God's plan, serving as sacred spaces where members participate in saving work and receive blessings centered on Jesus Christ. The new temple in Brazil provides a significant convenience for local members who previously traveled long distances to attend worship. Simultaneously, Elder David A. Bednar dedicated the Cleveland Ohio Temple, the church's 221st temple, in northeastern Ohio. The administration of the church noted that there are currently 164 additional temples under construction or in planning, bringing the total to 385 houses of the Lord worldwide. These dedications highlight a glorious season of temple building intended to strengthen the faith of members globally.
