Abelardo De La Espriella visits Buenaventura to oversee earthquake reconstruction and health services

President Abelardo De La Espriella visited the Buenaventura District to assess the damage caused by the earthquake on August 10. During the visit, Abelardo De La Espriella reported that 143 people are missing and 7 are injured, while 26,945 homes were destroyed and 127,557 sustained damage. The administration announced plans to prioritize the reconstruction of the region, aiming to rectify years of historical neglect. To address the immediate health crisis, the administration announced the delivery of over 260 kilograms of medication and supplies. Additionally, the hospital ship Benkos Bioh贸 was reactivated on August 14 to provide medical attention. For educational infrastructure, virtual classes will be implemented for students whose schools were damaged. Governor Dilian Francisca Toro established a crisis committee to manage humanitarian aid. A collection center in Cali serves as a hub for donations, which are organized and dispatched to municipalities based on specific needs. The administration announced that families with minor damage will receive repair materials, while those with extensive damage will be supported in full reconstruction.
