President Abelardo De La Espriella visits Choc贸 to lead private-public reconstruction efforts following a 7.4 magnitude earthquake

President Abelardo De La Espriella will visit Quibd贸, Choc贸, on Monday, September 7, to lead a meeting with local authorities and prominent business leaders. The visit aims to design an integral recovery plan for the department following the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that occurred on August 10. The administration announced a plan to coordinate actions for housing reconstruction, infrastructure repair, and the reactivation of economic activity. De La Espriella will be accompanied by a delegation of high-ranking entrepreneurs, including Luis Carlos Sarmiento, Jaime and Gabriel Gilinski, and Miguel Cortes. These business leaders have committed to contributing approximately $2 billion to the reconstruction efforts. De La Espriella requested that the directors of Grupo Aval, Banco GNB Sudameris, and Grupo Bolivar reduce the effective annual interest rate for housing credits for those affected by the earthquake to 8% for the duration of the loan. Governor Nubia Carolina Cordoba requested that the reconstruction process improve the quality of life for communities rather than simply restoring the previous conditions. The administration announced a subsidy scheme for affected families and joint financing models with the private sector to accelerate the works.
