Ronald Johnson reports the return of three fugitives to Mexico as a result of bilateral security cooperation

The administration announced that three fugitives sought by Mexican authorities were returned to Mexico in a single day of cooperation with the United States. Ronald Johnson, the US Ambassador to Mexico, confirmed that the fugitives included a suspected member of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) sought for a firearm-related crime in Guanajuato, a fugitive sought for murder in Zacatecas, and a third fugitive sought for fraud. This operation highlights the security relationship between the administration and the government of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. The administration designated the CJNG as a narcoterrorist organization in February 2025. The return of these fugitives follows a period of high activity in border security, including a joint security exercise involving the US Border Patrol and the Mexican Army. The administration also reported a significant reduction in undocumented migrant encounters at the border since President Sheinbaum took office. The return of these three fugitives differs from the massive flow of repatriated migrants that both countries have managed since January 2025.
