President Abelardo de la Espriella Appoints Ilva Myriam Hoyos as Colombia's New Minister of Education
President Abelardo de la Espriella designated Ilva Myriam Hoyos as the new National Education Minister of Colombia. The appointment follows the resignation of Viviane Morales, who stepped down from the position due to an unexpected family situation. Ilva Myriam Hoyos is an attorney with doctorates in Jurisprudence and Law from the University of La Sabana and the University of Navarra. She has served as a professor at several universities and previously worked as a procurator delegate for the Defense of Children’s Rights, Adolescents’ and Families. In her new role, Hoyos will oversee the education portfolio, which includes the departments of Higher Education and Early Childhood, Basic and Middle Education. The administration announced that the team formed by Viviane Morales will continue their work with commitment. Hoyos has previously authored a 38-page document analyzing the 'Santos-Farc conspiracy' to impose gender ideology in Colombia. In this document, she argues that the broad interpretation of gender in the 2016 peace agreement often ignores the distinction between sex and gender and aims to replace it with an ideology that denies the distinction and reciprocity between man and woman.
