Apollo Global Management confirmed a data breach where hackers stole personal information from the company's cloud systems. Human resources chief Matthew Breitfelder stated that a social engineering attack occurred between July 6 and July 10, allowing hackers to access names, birth dates, contact information, and Social Security numbers. This incident follows a security warning from Google regarding a widespread extortion campaign targeting financial and private equity giants. The hackers, who use various names such as Falcon and Helix, typically trick employees into entering passwords via spoofed login portals to gain network access. While the company did not specify if the data belonged to employees or owned companies, Apollo remains one of the world's largest private equity firms with $938 billion in assets under management. The breach was officially confirmed in a letter filed with California's attorney general.
