Vladimir Putin suggests peace with Ukraine is possible despite recent escalations in the conflict

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that there is a chance for peace in the Ukraine conflict, noting that the problem must ultimately be resolved by Russia and Ukraine. Speaking at an economic forum in Vladivostok, Putin noted that while many countries are ready to support a settlement, Ukraine's recent actions have complicated the prospects for bilateral talks. Specifically, Putin described Ukraine's warnings to airlines to avoid Russian airspace as acts of state terrorism. In response, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha expressed optimism regarding a new dynamic in peace efforts, citing a return to active political and diplomatic engagement in many global capitals. While Putin acknowledged that contacts between the two nations continue primarily through intelligence channels, the conflict remains intense. Both sides have ramped up long-range air attacks and maritime hostilities, which have impacted global grain prices. Putin also highlighted his preference for negotiations with the administration, specifically favoring special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner as primary interlocutors. He noted that these individuals are close to President Trump and are trusted by the administration to bring concrete substance to the peace process.
