Vladimir Putin and Masoud Pezeshkian Meet in New Delhi for BRICS Summit Amidst Global Conflicts

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in New Delhi to attend the 18th BRICS summit. The two-day meeting serves as a critical test for the bloc as it addresses the ongoing wars in Ukraine and the Middle East. During the summit, Vladimir Putin criticized Western sanctions, describing them as "illegal" and "unacceptable." He noted that Russia has faced more than 30,000 sanctions, which is double the amount of sanctions against all other countries combined. Masoud Pezeshkian urged the bloc to expand the use of national currencies for trade and to create an environment where no country can monopolize financial instruments. He also noted that the war against Iran has entered a "dangerous phase," affecting global stability and energy markets. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host the leaders, with Chinese President Xi Jinping also expected to attend. The summit aims to balance the interests of the Global South while navigating the geopolitical rivalries between major powers.
