Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the ongoing war in Ukraine during a meeting at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Kyrgyzstan. Modi stated that every day of continued conflict pushes humanity backward and called for a transition from "endless war to the end of war." While Russia remains committed to its military objectives, the administration announced that the US House is expected to pass a bill to impose up to 100% tariffs on the top five purchasers of Russian energy. India, a major purchaser of Russia's crude oil, faces potential tariffs of up to 100% under the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia Act. During the summit, SCO leaders signed the Bishkek Declaration, which condemned the US and Israel's war on Iran and Western sanctions on member nations. The declaration also advocated for a resolution to the Palestinian question through diplomatic means. Modi also addressed the issue of terrorism, describing it as a "grave challenge to all of humanity" and calling for the international community to dismantle the ecosystem of terrorist financing and radicalization.
