Saudi Arabia Condemns Iranian Attack on Saudi-owned Supertanker Sidr
Saudi Arabia condemned an Iranian attack on the Saudi-owned supertanker Sidr, which occurred while the vessel was transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The incident resulted in the death of two Filipino sailors. The Saudi national shipping company, Bahri, confirmed the security incident took place on Monday night at approximately 23:40 local time. Maritime security firms reported that Sidr was struck by unknown projectiles north of Oman's Musandam Peninsula. A South Korean-owned supertanker, Senegal Prosperity, was also struck by projectiles in the same region around the same time. Iran has not responded to the specific allegation of targeting the tanker. However, the Iranian Islamic Revolution Guard Corps stated that two tankers caught fire and exploded after hitting mines while using an unauthorized route through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran attributed these explosions to the tankers seeking to follow a route urged by the US military. President Trump said the Strait of Hormuz is open and the U.S. military is assisting ships to navigate the southern route. The administration announced a fresh round of strikes against Iran in retaliation for the country's recent attacks on commercial shipping and American service members.
