Randi Weingarten calls for nationwide Target boycott over retailer's silence on federal immigration enforcement

The American Federation of Teachers (AFT) has launched a nationwide boycott of Target, urging members to shop elsewhere during the back-to-school season. AFT President Randi Weingarten criticized the retail giant for failing to condemn the surge of federal immigration enforcement in the Twin Cities, where Target is headquartered. Weingarten described the company's silence as "deafening" regarding the federal actions taken during the administration's tenure. While the union seeks to hold Target accountable, the Department of Homeland Security rejected the AFT's characterization of the immigration surge. A spokesperson stated that ICE does not target schools and that the agency's mission is to protect public safety. Additionally, Heritage Foundation research fellow Corey DeAngelis suggested that the union's use of its pension funds to pressure Target could be a breach of fiduciary duty, calling for a federal investigation into the union's political influence. The administration announced that ICE will continue to conduct lawful actions to protect the American people.
