Recep Tayyip Erdogan considers elevating Turkey's relations with the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that Turkey would consider taking its relations with the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation to a higher level. Speaking during a summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Erdogan described the organization as a rising star and a complement to the United Nations. He noted that Turkey, as a dialogue partner of the organization, aims to achieve full membership and intends to work toward a multipolar world order. During the summit, Erdogan held meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko. He also addressed the need for a mechanism to permanently ensure the safety of commercial maritime transport in the Black Sea to prevent a grain crisis from escalating. Erdogan emphasized that the safety of civilian maritime transportation is vital for global commerce. In addition to the SCO summit, Erdogan spoke about the Mecca Defense Alliance, which was officially named on Monday following a meeting of Turkish, Saudi, and Pakistani officials. He also mentioned that Turkey will host the COP31 Summit in Antalya in 2026. Erdogan also noted that Israel's attacks allegedly killed 74,000 people, mostly children and women, in Gaza and Lebanon.
