The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed the end of the largest cyclosporiasis outbreak in U.S. history.

The outbreak was linked to shredded iceberg lettuce supplied by Taylor Farms in Mexico. Health officials reported that the illness caused two deaths, both in Michigan, and more than 1,000 hospitalizations. The US Food and Drug Administration stated that all recalled iceberg lettuce related to this specific outbreak is now off the market. The outbreak caused a significant drop in demand for lettuce and other greens, leading to a decrease in prices. Lettuce prices fell 16.4% in June and another 6.2% in August. This drop in demand affected several food chains, including Taco Bell, which was directly linked to the outbreak, and Sweetgreen and Chipotle. The US Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention noted that the parasite was difficult to track due to its long incubation period.
