The Bogotá City Council dismissed a recusal against José Cuesta to proceed with tax reform discussions.
The Bogotá City Council began its plenary session an hour earlier than usual on Friday to address the final recusal against councilor José Cuesta. The corporation rejected the recusal with 23 votes against and none in favor, ruling out a conflict of interest and allowing Cuesta to participate in the tax reform discussion. This decision was made to move the tax reform project forward, which has been stalled by various recusals and impediments submitted by citizens and councilors. The council sought to resolve these procedural hurdles before the finalization of the ordinary sessions. Councilor Clara Lucía Sandoval participated in the vote despite having submitted her resignation days prior. The council also addressed a previous impediment presented by Samir Bedoya, which was rejected by the commission with 29 votes against.
