President Trump to Headline First-Ever Republican Midterm Convention in Dallas
The administration announced that the Republican National Committee will host its first-ever midterm convention in Dallas on September 9 and 10. President Trump will deliver the keynote address on the second night, while Vice President JD Vance will deliver the keynote address on the first night. The event, which the RNC described as a 'Trumpapolooza,' is expected to draw approximately 20,000 attendees and will feature over 100 speakers discussing policy contrasts, election integrity, and tax cuts. Unlike traditional conventions, this event will have no delegates and no official votes to confirm nominees or platform issues. Political science researchers noted that the convention is designed more like a campaign rally to energize the base. However, some House Republicans have opted to skip the event to remain in their districts for campaigning. Rep. Tom Barrett cited the need to be in his district as a reason for his absence. Democrats have planned protests during the convention to highlight concerns regarding the economic agenda and the executive order on elections.
