The Federal Electricity Commission restored full power to users in the states of Yucatan, Quintana Roo, Campeche, and Chiapas. The outage occurred after two high-voltage transmission lines were affected by acts of vandalism. The power failure impacted various areas across the three states, including Mérida in Yucatan and several zones in Quintana Roo and Chiapas. In Cancún, the outage was concentrated in the southern zone, while the hotel zone, including Kukulcán Boulevard and the tourist corridor, maintained service. The Federal Electricity Commission reported that the peninsula operates at its limit, generating less than it consumes and relying on a few lines to import energy. Because of this dependency, a disruption in the 400-kilovolt lines affects multiple states simultaneously. The Federal Electricity Commission acted immediately to restore the supply, which was was fully restored by the morning of September 1.
