Joaquín Guzmán Loera recounts instructions to his men and his role in drug trafficking in new recordings
Joaquín Guzmán Loera, the former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, provided new insights into his capture through a series of newly released recordings. These videos, captured during his recapture in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, in January 2016, show Guzmán Loera explaining his instructions to his subordinates. He stated that he did not want his men to engage in a confrontation with the authorities, telling them to avoid fighting with the police if he were captured. During the recordings, Guzmán Loera also discussed his role in the other drug trafficking and claimed that he did not steal from the government or the state. He was seen cleaning mud from his face after escaping through a drainage system and was shown being transported to Mexico City. These recordings were released by journalist Héctor de Mauleón, who has been documenting the capture of Guzmán Loera. These videos provide a new historical record of the security operations and the market for organized crime in Mexico.
