Officer Justin Church Released From Hospital After Being Shot During Richmond Mental Health Crisis Call
Richmond police officer Justin Church was released from the hospital on Friday after being shot while responding to a mental health crisis call on Thursday evening. The 25-year law-enforcement veteran was struck by gunfire almost immediately upon arriving at a residence in the 2200 block of Key Boulevard. Contra Costa County's A3 Crisis Response team requested police assistance for a welfare check at the home. A woman, identified as Jasmine Robinson, barricaded herself inside the residence and fired multiple rounds in different directions. The gunfire struck neighboring homes, vehicles, and a police patrol car, though no other residents or personnel were injured. To contain the situation, Richmond police deployed SWAT teams, crisis negotiators, and chemical agents. Officers did not discharge their firearms during the incident. Jasmine Robinson was eventually taken into custody and faces charges of attempted murder, assault with an assault weapon on a person, and kidnapping. The investigation remains ongoing.
