Ukrainian Sea Drone Strikes Russian Resort Town of Sochi

A Ukrainian unmanned surface vessel struck the waterfront in the Russian resort town of Sochi on September 9. The strike caused a fire on the port embankment and resulted in infrastructure damage. The attack occurred during a concert by singer Tatiana Bulanova, forcing the audience to evacuate the Festivalny House of Culture. Local authorities reported that 28 people were injured in the strike, including two children. While most received medical treatment, three adults and one child remain hospitalized. Sochi Mayor Andrei Proshunin stated that the damage to the waterfront was minor and that the beaches would remain closed until the area is cleared. The attack follows a series of Ukrainian strikes against Russian oil infrastructure. On September 3 and 4, Ukrainian forces launched waves of attacks against Sochi, including a naval drone strike on a Russian vessel. Additionally, an oil depot owned by Rosneft reportedly reignited on September 7, following a strike by Ukrainian drones earlier in the week. These strikes are part of a sustained campaign by Ukraine to target Russian energy facilities and ports.
