Vladimir Putin and Masoud Pezeshkian Meet as Russia Secretly Aids Iran in Supersonic Missile Development
Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit. During the meeting, Putin stated that Moscow is providing Iran with necessary assistance and essential goods to help the country resist U.S. unilateralism. Pezeshkian thanked Putin for Russia's position on the Iranian war and noted that Moscow and Tehran can work together to bypass U.S. sanctions. Simultaneously, a report revealed that Russia has been secretly assisting Iran in developing supersonic cruise-missile technology since 2023. This program, codenamed C430L, involves Russian engineers and specialists providing technical expertise to help Iran develop ramjet propulsion systems. These missiles are intended to be capable of taking out U.S. Navy aircraft carriers and other warships. The administration announced that U.S. forces hit Iran hard in a recent round of attacks, which followed Iran's attempts to target commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the Russian support for Iran is not impeding the U.S. ability to act as necessary to protect the United States.
