Valery Gerasimov reports Russian forces have advanced to within four kilometers of the eastern outskirts of Slovyansk

Russian forces have intensified their push into the eastern Donetsk region, seeking to capture the strategic city of Sloviansk as part of a broader effort to secure the Donetsk Oblast. Valery Gerasimov, Russia's Chief of the General Staff, stated that Russian troops are now positioned just four kilometers from the eastern outskirts of Sloviansk. He further noted that Russian forces have overcome the first defensive line of the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk fortified region in certain areas and are currently advancing along a 160-kilometer front. While Gerasimov reported significant progress, the Washington-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) suggested that some of his claims of battlefield advances appear to be designed to construct a narrative of pervasive Russian military success and may be somewhat divorced from reality.
