The administration announced that the visit aims to facilitate a peace agreement, with President Vladimir Putin expressing a willingness to end the conflict only on Russia's terms. During the talks, President Vladimir Putin confirmed that Russian forces would pause aerial strikes on Kyiv for three days to accommodate the delegation's travel. While Ukraine agreed to a three-day ceasefire on long-range strikes against Moscow and Kyiv, President Vladimir Putin rejected a broader three-day frontline ceasefire proposed by Ukraine. Sources close to the Kremlin indicated that President Vladimir Putin remains confident in capturing the rest of the Donbas region by the end of 2026. However, Ukraine has privately informed the administration that Russia may struggle to capture the remaining Ukrainian-controlled parts of Donetsk Oblast even by 2027. The diplomatic mission follows a period of intense military activity. Russian forces have suffered over 1.5 million personnel casualties since the start of the full-scale invasion. Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces have continued to strike Russian military infrastructure in occupied territories, including a recent strike on the Saratov Oil Refinery in Russia.
