Evergreen Fresh Sprouts, LLC Recalls Broccoli Sprouts Due to Salmonella Outbreak

Evergreen Fresh Sprouts, LLC initiated a recall of broccoli sprouts after a Salmonella Bovismorbificans outbreak was linked to the product. The outbreak has affected at least 22 people across four states, resulting in two hospitalizations and no deaths. Symptoms typically appear 12 to 72 hours after consumption and include fever, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps. The recall includes broccoli sprouts packaged in plastic bags or clam shell containers with expiration dates of 9/7, 9/9, 9/11, 9/14, and 9/16. The products were sold to grocery stores, restaurants, and food service customers in Idaho, Montana, and Washington, though they may have reached other states. The investigation was prompted by a positive Salmonella result from a sample analyzed by Montana state officials. Whole genome sequencing confirmed the strain was the same one causing the illnesses. Consumers are advised to discard any sprouts meeting the description.
