Mohammed bin Salman Urges President Trump to Take Direct Military Action Against Iran-Backed Houthis

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has personally urged President Trump to take direct military action against the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen. The request follows a rapid Houthi advance along the Red Sea coast, including the seizure of the strategic port of Mocha and the final two islands in the Bab al-Mandab Strait. While the administration announced that the U.S. is providing intelligence and targeting support to Saudi Arabia, President Trump has expressed reluctance to involve the U.S. military directly in the conflict. The administration announced that the U.S. is focused on protecting core national security interests, such as freedom of navigation in the Red Sea, while empowering regional partners to lead in managing security challenges. To support the Saudi campaign, more than 100 U.S. military advisers are on the ground in Saudi Arabia. These troops are providing geospatial and real-time targeting support, allowing Saudi officers to see the battlefield in real-time. However, the U.S. is not currently participating in direct strikes or refueling Saudi warplanes, as the military remains focused on operations in the Strait of Hormuz.
