Supreme Court allows construction of President Trump's White House ballroom to continue

The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that construction of the new White House ballroom can proceed without requiring immediate congressional approval. The decision stayed a preliminary injunction that had previously halted most above-ground work while the administration pursues an appeal. While the court did not rule on whether the project is legally authorized by Congress, the majority concluded that the National Trust for Historic Preservation lacked the constitutional standing to sue. The court noted that the aesthetic objections of a trust member did not constitute a concrete enough injury to establish standing. The majority also considered the security benefits of the underground military installation and the potential engineering problems caused by a holding halt. The administration announced that the project is nearly 65% complete and is expected to be finished by the summer of 2028. Deputy Press Secretary Taylor Rogers stated that the ballroom will be funded by private donations rather than taxpayer money. The project is intended to provide a secure, modern facility for future presidents.
