Mexico City Authorities Activate Yellow Alert for Heavy Rainfall and Thunderstorms Across 16 Municipalities

The Secretaría de Gestión Integral de Riesgos y Protección Civil of the City of Mexico activated a yellow alert for all 16 municipalities of the capital to prepare for heavy rainfall, strong winds, and possible hail. The administration announced that precipitation of 15 to 30 mm is expected, with some areas potentially reaching 50 mm in 24 hours. Significant flooding and inundations were reported in Álvaro Obregón, Iztapalapa, and Tláhuac, where accumulated trash and leaf litter blocked drains, requiring intervention from protection civil brigades to clear waste and desalin the roads. The Metro de la Ciudad de México also implemented a security march and reduced train speeds on multiple lines to manage delays caused by the rain. Meteorological forecasts indicate that the irregular distribution of rainfall will continue through Sunday, with northwest winds reaching 35 km/h. Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, carry umbrellas, and stay informed through meteorological alerts as temperatures remain cool to fresh.
