National Meteorological Service (SMN) Forecasts Heavy Rainfall and Heat Waves Across Mexico for August 23-24

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) reported that 30 states in Mexico will experience rain this Sunday, August 23, driven by the interaction of Tropical Wave 30, the Mexican monsoon, and Tropical Wave 29. These rains may reach intense levels, potentially causing flooding, landslides, and reduced visibility in urban areas. Simultaneously, a heat wave will persist in four entities, with temperatures in Baja California and Sonora exceeding 45°C. On Monday, August 24, the SMN reported that 31 states will see precipitation as Tropical Wave 30 moves west and Tropical Wave 31 enters the country. The Mexican monsoon will continue to generate strong showers and heavy rains across the northwestern, northern, southern, and southeastern regions. While some areas will experience intense rain, others may see light rain or snowfall. Strong winds are expected across the and central parts of the country, with ocean waves reaching 2.0 to 3.0 meters in several coastal regions. The SMN warned that heavy rains could lead to an increase in river levels and streams, potentially causing inundations in low-lying areas.
