Ricardo Peñuela, the Secretary of Risk Management, confirmed that six private buildings in Cali have been approved for demolition following the earthquake on August 10. While technical approvals are in place, the buildings must undergo further legal and administrative procedures before demolition begins. Mayor Alejandro Éder met with President Abelardo De La Espriella and Finance Minister Miguel Gómez to discuss reconstruction efforts. The administration is awaiting emergency decrees to release resources for urban infrastructure. The earthquake resulted in the collapse of 24 buildings and the evacuation of 1,000 more due to risk of collapse. Of the 40,000 families registered as damaged, 70% belong to socio-economic strata 3, 4, and 5. The city aims to find housing for approximately 5,000 to 8,000 families. To assist with the reconstruction, Bogotá and Medellín have sent engineering teams to help with planning and structural reinforcement recommendations.
