Maura Sullivan and Stefany Shaheen Lead Closely Contested Democratic Primary for New Hampshire's 1st Congressional District

Maura Sullivan and Stefany Shaheen are the frontrunners in a crowded Democratic primary for New Hampshire's 1st Congressional District, following the decision of incumbent Chris Pappas to run for the U.S. Senate. Sullivan, a Marine Corps veteran and former Obama administration official, has raised $3.6 million in campaign contributions. Shaheen, the daughter of retiring U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen, has raised $2.4 million and received endorsements from former Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter and Christian Urrutia. Both candidates are vying to keep the district under Democratic control. Sullivan's platform includes bolstering the VA, opposing the tariffs of the administration, and increasing federal investments in housing. Shaheen's platform emphasizes Medicare for All, expanding tax breaks for first-time homebuyers, and overhauling Immigration and Customs Enforcement. While Sullivan has out-fundraised the field, Shaheen has maintained a lead in several recent polls. Other candidates, including Carleigh Beriont, remain in the race, though the field has narrowed significantly in the final weeks. The winner of this primary will advance to the general election on November 3.
