These gatherings occurred over two consecutive nights during Labor Day weekend, where hundreds of teenagers swarmed public spaces and gridlocked traffic. During the events, some teenagers appeared as young as 10 years old. The crowds led to several incidents, including a police sergeant being assaulted and a female officer being injured. Police responded with increased patrols and crowd control measures. The administration of the police department issued citations for disorderly conduct and made several arrests for robbery, firearms violations, and assault. Commissioner Bethel noted that the behavior was a deliberate choice by some youth to create chaos rather than a simple lack of activities. He emphasized that parents and caretakers must share responsibility for their children's actions. Bethel announced he will meet with city partners to discuss the matter. He stated that those who damage property or attack officers should expect to be told to be held accountable for their crimes.
