Severe storms swept through central North Carolina on Saturday, causing significant property damage and power outages across multiple communities. In Wendell Falls, wind gusts of 55 to 60 mph and heavy rain knocked down dozens of trees, toppled a gas station awning, and left thousands of residents without electricity. In Asheboro, the storms caused significant damage to homes and roads, leading the city to declare a state of emergency. Residents reported trees crashing through roofs and falling onto vehicles while many were away. In Raleigh, a large tree fell into an apartment complex parking lot. Duke Energy reported that the storms caused approximately 50,000 power outages in Eastern North Carolina, with crews tracking around 100 individual outage locations in Wake County. While many residents expressed gratitude that no one was seriously injured, emergency responders and community members worked to manage debris and clear roadways.
