Severe Weather Systems Impact the Southeast and Plains for Labor Day Weekend

Severe thunderstorms are expected to impact parts of the Southeast and the Northern and Central Plains during the Labor Day holiday weekend. On Saturday, severe thunderstorms targeted portions of Virginia and the Carolinas, with damaging wind gusts being the primary hazard. On Sunday, the threat shifts south over portions of South Carolina and Georgia, while flash flooding risks return to parts of the Southwest, including southern Nevada, northern Arizona, and Utah. On Monday, the Northern and Central Plains will experience a round of severe storms. Rain will blanket Montana through the morning, followed by stronger storms developing late afternoon over the Dakotas and Nebraska. These storms may produce large hail, damaging wind gusts, and potential tornadoes. The region will experience cooler, more tranquil weather for Labor Day. In the Southeast, temperatures will top out in the middle 80s under partly cloudy skies. In the Midwest, a cold front will continue to push eastward across Minnesota and Wisconsin through Tuesday morning.
