Claudia Sheinbaum accuses the United States of using interference tactics to divide the Mexican security cabinet
President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that the United States is using tactics of influence to divide her security cabinet and weaken the Mexican government. Sheinbaum noted that the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) uses praise and criticism to generate division, specifically citing the DEA's recognition of Security Secretary Omar Garcia Harfuch as a trusted friend. Sheinbaum asserted that these strategies have failed because the three national security institutions maintain extraordinary coordination and collaboration. She characterized the U.S. actions as a recurring issue of interference in Mexico's internal politics and elections. The president highlighted that the relationship with the United States has been one of her biggest challenges, noting moments of tension regarding tariffs and a conspiracy accusation by the administration involving 10 Mexican officials from Sinaloa. Sheinbaum requested evidence from the United States regarding these officials before deciding on extraditions, but the U.S. replied that they were not obliged to provide it. Sheinbaum stated that Mexico is not a pinata for anyone and questioned whether the U.S. interest in fighting organized crime is a legitimate interest or an attempt to influence the 2027 Mexican elections.
