President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo attributes Tren Maya train derailment to human error

President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo stated that a mechanical failure on the Tren Maya train was caused by human error. The incident occurred on August 31 as the train was approaching the San Francisco de Campeche station. The last car of the train unit suffered a track failure, which forced the train to stop 50 meters after leaving the station. All 123 passengers on the train were evacuated without any injuries. Passengers were transferred by bus to the Tenabo station and later to the Edzná station to continue their journey. National Guard elements, Mexican Army personnel, and technical staff from the Tren Maya were mobilized to assist the passengers and provide maintenance. President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo clarified that the derailment was not a result of poor maintenance, but rather a result of the manual process of changing the tracks. While acknowledging that some specific equipment problems were reported and are being addressed, the administration maintained that the rail infrastructure and cars are well-maintained.
