Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo defends Mexican sovereignty against potential U.S. intervention

President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo stated that the United States' designation of organized crime groups as terrorist organizations should not serve as a pretext for a military invasion of Mexico. During a visit to Aguascalientes, she emphasized that Mexico maintains a firm stance on national sovereignty and rejection of foreign interference. To reinforce this, the administration announced that Article 40 of the Constitution was strengthened to ensure that no foreign country can intervene in Mexican territory. Sheinbaum Pardo also highlighted the need for bilateral cooperation based on mutual respect. She noted that while Mexico is willing to fight organized crime, the joint strategy with the United States must respect each nation's jurisdiction. She further suggested that the United States should analyze its own responsibility in combating drug trafficking, specifically regarding consumption and distribution networks within its own territory. Additionally, Sheinbaum Pardo mentioned a new initiative sent to Congress to ensure that only individuals with exclusive Mexican nationality can run for the presidency, governorship, or head of government of Mexico City.
