President Claudia Sheinbaum confirms no formal investigations exist against Andrés Manuel López Beltrán and Adán Augusto López for fiscal fraud

President Claudia Sheinbaum clarified that neither Andrés Manuel López Beltrán nor Senator Adán Augusto López are currently under formal investigation by the General Prosecutor's Office for fiscal fraud. During a morning conference in Zacatecas, Sheinbaum stated that while both figures have been frequently mentioned in relation to fuel smuggling and tax evasion, the General Prosecutor's Office has not yet opened a formal penal investigation against them. Sheinbaum detailed three primary lines of investigation into fuel contraband. The first involves a ship detained in Tampico that transported diesel while being declared as naftas, allowing it to avoid taxes. The second focuses on ferrotank vehicles crossing the border with false permits to conceal gasoline or diesel. The third line pertains to fuel theft within Pemex ducts. Sheinbaum noted that while the Secretariat for Anticorruption and Good Governance investigates former public servants, Andrés Manuel López Beltrán was not a public servant, and Adán Augusto López served as Secretary of Government. She emphasized that a mention in court does not automatically equate to a formal investigation, and the General Prosecutor's Office is responsible for determining the validity of evidence.
