Jimmy Lee Steverson, a 23-year-old suspect from Georgia, was found dead in South Carolina after allegedly killing a police officer in Meriwether County. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified the officer as Chris Fisher of the Warm Springs Police Department. On Tuesday night, Officer Chris Fisher was sitting in his patrol car at the Meriwether Country Inn when Jimmy Lee Steverson pulled up in a black 2026 Chevrolet Silverado and fired multiple shots into the vehicle. Fisher was pronounced dead at the scene. Steverson then fled the scene, prompting a statewide Blue Alert. On Wednesday, Anderson County Sheriff Chad McBride reported that deputies spotted a vehicle matching the description of Steverson's truck in South Carolina. During a traffic stop, officers discovered Jimmy Lee Steverson in the backseat of the vehicle, suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital and confirmed dead. Steverson had been arrested by Officer Chris Fisher last Friday on felony charges including obstruction, possession of a firearm during an attempted crime, and marijuana possession. Governor Brian Kemp expressed sadness over the death of Officer Chris Fisher.
