The aframax Metro Venetian oil tanker was struck by an unknown projectile on Monday night off the east coast of Oman in the Strait of Hormuz. The strike damaged the vessel's engine room and disabled the ship, though the crew remained safe and no immediate environmental impact was reported. This attack occurs as Iran maintains a firm control over the waterway, periodically firing at vessels to harass commercial shipping. Pakistan has recently concluded high-level talks in Tehran with the goal of bringing a negotiated end to the Iran-U.S. conflict. A Pakistani delegation led by Field Marshal Asim Munir departed Tehran on Tuesday after meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The delegation sought to mediate a resolution between the U.S. and Iran. Meanwhile, the U.S. Treasury Department announced sanctions on nearly 60 Iran-linked entities, including several based in China. China's Foreign Ministry stated that cooperation with Iran should not be disrupted, as China remains one of Iran's largest trading partners.
