Among those who use AI for emotional purposes, nearly 40% stated they talk to chatbots to feel less alone, and nearly one-third consider their most-used bot to be a friend. The study, a collaboration between the Imagining the Digital Future Center and the Elon University Poll, surveyed a representative sample of 1,000 AI companion users. Lee Rainie, director of the Imagining the Digital Future Center, noted that the findings provide insights into emerging relationships as AI agents become part of the landscape. While many users build bonds of trust and confidence with these bots, Apple executives Craig Federighi and Greg Joswiak stated that Siri AI will not act as a romantic partner, focusing instead on helping users complete tasks and learn about the world.
