President Trump Plans to Transform East Potomac Golf Links into a Championship-Level Venue
The administration announced plans to renovate the East Potomac Golf Links into a world-class, championship-quality golf course by the summer of 2028. President Trump intends to upgrade the existing municipal course into a single 18-hole venue capable of hosting major tournaments, such as the U.S. Open and the Ryder Cup. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum shared a rendering of the project, which was designed by golf course architect Tom Fazio, highlighting that the new course will offer affordable, highly discounted rates for the public. While the administration has already begun routine maintenance, including the removal of approximately 150 trees, the project faces a lawsuit from the DC Preservation League and two local golfers. The plaintiffs argue that the redevelopment may violate the congressional act that created the park and expressed concern that the renovation could lead to higher fees and a loss of public space. U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes is overseeing the litigation, and the administration has sought to dismiss the case while the legal challengers are given the opportunity to amend their lawsuit to reflect recent Supreme Court rulings.
