South Korea's semiconductor exports reached a record $46.65 billion in August, driving a significant rebound in the country's overall export performance.

South Korea's semiconductor exports reached a record $46.65 billion in August, accounting for 47.5% of the country's $98.25 billion in total goods exports for that month. This surge, which represented a 209% increase from the previous year, was primarily driven by high demand for AI infrastructure from large cloud providers such as Google and Amazon. While semiconductors remain the primary driver of the export boom, other sectors are also showing growth. Exports of computer peripherals jumped 262.2% from January to August, while petroleum products rose 40.7% and wireless communication devices gained 28.1% during the same period. Ship exports also increased by 12.4%. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources reported that non-semiconductor exports climbed 20% in August. Despite the rapid pace of semiconductor growth, analysts note that other cyclical sectors are also performing well. The government aims to reach a long-term goal of $1 trillion in annual exports, a milestone previously achieved only by the United States, China, and Germany.
